Remote working and social distancing became everyday terms in 2020. A lot of companies shifted to remote working (workers working from home) as a result of nationwide shutdowns because of COVID-19.
As the workforce is going back to a regular schedule, workers and employers support the shift to hybrid: partially working at home and partially at the office.
On the other end, a lot of workers have decided that they don’t want to go back to working for someone else. Finally they see the possibility of having their own business and taking control of their life.
Hence real estate investing is looking more and more like the perfect remote virtual business.
Remote working and virtual real estate investing
Virtual real estate investing is the ideal business that can be started and run from home with very little capital.
A lot of investors think that virtual real estate investing means you have to invest in real estate in markets outside the immediate area, but it is not necessarily true. You can have a virtual real estate business locally: with the internet and advanced connectivity options, plus new tools and apps, you can definitely run the business remotely across town or across the globe.
Because of the adaptability of virtual real estate investing and the fact that remote working with your own business can be a reality for everyone, virtual real estate investing is the future of real estate: the trends and limitations of your local market no longer limit your success. Neither do the ever-changing government regulations and restrictions.
Remote working and the fact that hybrid working solutions are the way to the future, a lot of spaces have adapted to this type of working structure. Since people don’t have to stay home and commute to an office every day, they are free to work from anywhere, travel and take extended vacations.
- Hotels – a lot of the main hotel chains offer long term stay and work rates. Home offices in the hotel rooms and business center spaces have been revamped.
- Coworking Office Space – coworking office spaces suffered in 2020 with massive profit losses as people had to stay at home and could not go outside even for work. In 2021, people are looking to meet clients and have more hybrid work schedules so they can work outside the home (working at home can be lonely and depressing for a lot of people.) Co-working is seeing a revival, although they had to adapt the concept and offer services like virtual offices and more flexible solutions (like satellite locations around the country.)
- RV (Recreational Vehicle) Industry – even manufacturers of motorhomes and travel trailers are redesigning floor plans to accommodate working spaces in the RVs. More and more people are traveling on road trips and working remotely while traveling.
Sample schedule for remote working with real estate investing
If you are working from home, you want to build the real estate business around your lifestyle, not the other way around (as you would do with a 9 to 5 job,) where your lifestyle has to revolve around your job schedule.
This is the beauty of having your own business and even more so with remote working.
For instance, if you want to work 4 days a week and have a long weekend every week, concentrate your tasks into 4 days and the rest of the days just handle incoming lead calls.
If you are working while traveling, concentrate your work schedule only in the mornings and then you can sightsee and explore the rest of the day. In my case, while I travel, I dedicate 4 hours a day to working, like from 7am to 11am, and then I am available the rest of the day just for incoming leads and team questions calls.
The world crisis has opened our eyes to different possibilities and trends. Some of these trends and technologies were already happening, but the world crisis just accelerated the developments of these trends and changed society’s perception about remote working.
